POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT

At The Gray Area, we understand the close correlation between emotion and behaviour. We understand that each unique action serves a purpose for every individual when it comes to regulating emotions.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is successful because it acknowledges that all behaviours have a purpose, and challenging behaviours can be minimised by understanding the underlying intentions or messages behind them.

Positive Behaviour Support aims to minimise challenging behaviour and is the most effective method for individuals, both children and adults, with disabilities who exhibit concerning behaviours.

ENHANCING YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE

Positive Behaviour Support enhances your quality of life by constructing innovative support strategies, honing skills, and fostering behaviours aligned with your needs and aspirations.

Together with your team, we create a customised plan based on a deep understanding of your goals and desired outcomes. The plan focuses on eliminating the triggers, incentives, and rewards associated with challenging behaviour to make it unnecessary. Additionally, it will provide guidance on adopting alternative and more suitable behaviours to replace the challenging ones with a focus on:

THE BIG PICTURE

Understanding your current routines, cherished values, social networks, and inherent strengths.

ROADBLOCKS

Recognising current behaviours that may pose challenges within your day-to-day life.

MOVING FORWARD

Understanding your needs and finding new ways to meet those needs that don't require challenging behaviour.

THE GOAL

Encouraging positive behaviours and competencies essential for achieving your meaningful objectives.

WHAT DOES A GOOD PLAN LOOK LIKE?

A good plan will lead to:

  • more effective ways for you to communicate.

  • improved relationships.

  • greater community access.

  • gaining control of your life.

WHO IS POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT FOR?

PBS services cater to individuals with behavioural support NDIS funding or those supported by a third-party organisation. This service is available for individuals of all age groups.

If you or someone you care about is experiencing behavioural challenges, we offer assistance to encourage more suitable conduct.

OUR PROCESS

Working closely with our team of psychologists, we use an all round collaborative approach to ensure our clients goals and desired outcomes are met.

INITIAL CONSULTATION

We understand that sometimes the first steps are the hardest, which is why we have made our Initial Consultation Process simple and easy.

  1. - Fill out our online referral form or send through referral

  2. - Admin will be in touch to confirm details

  3. - Review and sign the NDIS service agreement and consent forms

  4. - Once documents are signed we will book in your initial consultation with our BSP

BEHAVIOUR PLAN DEVELOPMENT

We evaluate your strengths, risks, and goals, checking for any restrictive practices. If we find one, we create a draft Interim Behavior Support Plan and share it with you and your team for input. Once you're satisfied, we submit it to the NDIS Commission if it involves restrictive practices. This typically takes 10 to 20 hours. If this exhausts your NDIS funding, we assist in requesting further funding from the NDIA with a supporting letter.

IMPLEMENTATION & CONTINUOUS REVIEW

We offer training and coaching for you, your main support network, and your family. We continuously listen to your feedback, review your information, and adjust the Behavior Plan accordingly. If you have 35 or more NDIS hours, we provide a Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan. This plan includes a Functional Behaviour Assessment and:

  • Proactive strategies based on the function of the behaviour, aiming to improve your quality of life. These strategies include environmental adjustments, skill development, and focused approaches.

  • Reactive strategies designed to enhance safety and quickly calm challenging behavior incidents.

  • Data collection systems for ongoing review, which can be accessed through a mobile app or paper forms.

OUTCOME & RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT

At the end of each service, we give you a recommendation letter to assist you in securing the appropriate level of ongoing support from the NDIS. The NDIA requires evidence demonstrating the reasonableness and necessity of your support needs, and we specialise in gathering, analysing, and presenting this evidence. Your behaviour support and lifestyle objectives are well-defined. Working together, we create a plan and develop the necessary skills to achieve these objectives. Your advancement toward these goals is tracked and documented in a persuasive report submitted to the NDIA.
